Our hiking test confirmed the range claim. But during the same trip, we also observed how the device actually behaved — voice reliability, battery performance, wearing comfort, group communication, and app functions. This is what we found.

What We Tested

Same trip, same four testers, same device — but this article focuses on core device behavior observed throughout the hike: how the device was carried and worn, how the battery held up, how voice communication performed under repeated use, and whether the app functions worked as expected in the field.

How We Tested

Across the full hiking route, we observed and recorded six areas of device behavior:

  1. Wearing & carrying — All three attachment methods (lanyard, magnetic clip, belt clip) used across the full hike duration
  2. Battery & charging — Charge time measured before departure; battery drain tracked over 2.5 hours of active use on the trail, then left on standby after the hike
  3. Performance stability — 5 consecutive communication sessions across the route to observe whether call quality degraded over time
  4. Group call behavior — Multi-user group calls throughout the hike; interference, delay, and voice loss patterns recorded
  5. Close-range use — Two devices used near each other to observe acoustic feedback behavior
  6. App functions in the field — Battery and signal display checked throughout; face-to-face pairing and location tracking tested at specific points on the route

What We Found

1. 🔋 Battery — Far Beyond What We Expected

Fully charged before departure (~1.5 hours to full). After 2.5 hours of active use on the trail, battery consumed approximately 12%. After the hike ended, the device was left powered on in standby — it continued running for an additional 32 hours before shutting down from low battery. Connection quality and call clarity remained consistent across all 5 communication sessions during the hike — no degradation observed as the day progressed.

2. 📎 Wearing on the Trail — Method Matters

At 45g, the device itself is light. But how you carry it makes a real difference over a full day of hiking:

  • Magnetic clip or belt clip — device sits on the body with no load on the user; hands-free, non-restrictive, and comfortable throughout active movement

  • ⚠️ Lanyard only — works for short periods, but over extended wear the weight on the neck becomes noticeable and movement starts to feel restricted. Not the recommended option for a full hiking day
  • ⚠️ Belt clip connection — functional but the attachment point is relatively fragile; magnetic clip may also detach during active movement on uneven terrain

3. ⏱️ Voice Delay — Consistent Across All Conditions

Voice reception delays of 15–20 seconds were observed repeatedly — not only on the mountain, but also in open terrain and indoors. This was not an environment-specific issue. Some calls also experienced up to 40% packet loss and one-way reception failures.

The device stayed connected across 2km+ of mountain terrain — but a message arriving 15 seconds late, or not at all, changes how useful that connection actually is when coordination matters.

4. 🔊 Group Calls — Two Issues Observed

  • Occasional short, loud interference bursts during group calls — disruptive but brief
  • When two devices were used in close proximity, acoustic feedback (squealing) was triggered — separating the devices resolved it immediately

5. 📱 App Functions in the Field — Inconsistent

  • Battery & signal display: font too small, no numeric battery percentage — difficult to check device status quickly while hiking
  • Face-to-face pairing on the trail: pairing completed but did not sync to App group — real-time location sharing unavailable
  • Location tracking: significant position errors and missing member locations — not reliable as a navigation or coordination reference on the route
