When Trade-Offs Go Wrong

When Trade-Offs Go Wrong

When Trade-Offs Go Wrong

Every product has trade-offs.

A lighter device may have shorter battery life.
A cheaper product may have fewer features.

The problem is making the wrong trade-off.

A trade-off becomes a problem when it sacrifices what users value most.

Users understand limitations.

They accept that a budget product cannot match a premium one, and a simple tool cannot provide every advanced capability.

But they will not accept a product that breaks its core promise.

Before making a trade-off, ask three questions:

What value are we creating?
Does this sacrifice create meaningful benefits?

What are we sacrificing?
Are we giving up a minor feature or a core user need?

Will our users accept it?

Great products are not without limitations.

They are built by choosing the right limitations for the right users.
